How to choose a forex broker
A broker is not just a place to open trades. It controls the legal entity, account type, spreads, commissions, platforms, minimum deposit, execution quality, and withdrawal process that shape your real trading result.
| Broker factor | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Regulation and legal entity | Confirm the company, regulator, license number, and country that will hold your account. | Client protections and restrictions depend on the exact entity, not only the brand name. |
| Trading costs | Compare typical spread, commission, swap, and slippage during the session you trade. | Small differences can change scalping, gold, and copy trading results. |
| Platform and account type | Check whether the strategy needs MT4, MT5, raw spread, ECN-style, or copy-specific setup. | The wrong account can prevent copying or create different fills. |
| Deposits and withdrawals | Read funding methods, withdrawal rules, processing times, and fees before depositing. | A good spread is not useful if withdrawing funds is slow or unclear. |
Broker warning signs
Be careful with brokers or introducers that promise guaranteed returns, pressure you to deposit quickly, hide the legal entity, avoid clear risk warnings, or make withdrawals sound easier than the terms allow.
